Club Of The Year – “Young Gloves Karate Club”
Young Gloves is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. After much hard work and incredible commitment from all members and those involved in and around it, the club has a thriving membership of over 250 students.
After many years competing locally, nationally and internationally students compete to the highest standard achieving a haul of medals. In the latest unity world games the squad came away with two gold’s, seven silver and one bronze.
Members from the club actively take part in various charity events throughout the year, such as inter-club competitions, discos, BBQ’s World Record attempts and other sporting feats and have raised £70,000 for children’s charities in our area.
Over 150 children from the club come together annually for a fun, extremely well organised family friendly inter-club karate competition. Children as young as 5 take part raising funds.
2019 the chosen local charity was “Leap Gate”. This is a Disabled Activity Centre in Stourport helping people and families, giving them purpose and achievement at the Centre on Wilden Lane.
A massive £3720 was raised on the day.
The club also aim to raise a massive £10,000 this year for a charity called “Smile For Joel” as well as entering more karate competitions.
The club also help develop other qualities in the students by creating roles for young leaders, such as providing first aid courses and they have also worked alongside the police force to provide sessions for the prevention of knife crime, self defence and social awareness.
