Ohyo Gumite

Ohyo Gumite

There is a tremendous variety of techniques which can be applied in tournament karate.
There we have a series of Ohyo Gumite.
Before going through them it is important to know the difference between Aihanmi and Gyakuhanmi.

Aihanmi and Gyakuhanmi
ai=harmony, gyaku=reverse, hanmi=half front viewing

Aihanmi
In Aihanmi both stand with the same foot forward. e.g. both opponents have their left foot forward. Therefore there are two Aihanmis, either left foot forward or right foot forward.

Gyakuhanmi
In Gyakuhanmi, one stands with there left foot forward and the other right leg forward.
There are also two types of Gyakuanmi, either left foot forward or right foot forward.
